Africana is commissioned by the Sea Research Institute and has achieved more than 40.000 scientific stations. Based in Cape Town and owned byDepartment of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries is monitoring the fish stock of South Africa's Off-shore fisheries. As a purpose-built stern trawler, this vessel is designed for Pelagic and Demersal Trawling, hydroacoustic surveys, and deep-sea deployments. Two 1/2 Ton PESCI MARINE cranes are mounted on the deck as fast loading unloading lifting equipment.
